Children, Orphans, & Women
Every child is special and unique, characterized by distinct traits, temperaments, and strengths that must be encouraged and valued. Growing up in a caring, safe, and stimulating environment is a fundamental right and highly dependent on their mothers, especially during early childhood, for basic needs such as food, comfort, and emotional regulation, establishing a crucial bond that promotes security, self-esteem, and healthy development, although this attachment is often due to the mother’s typical role as the primary caregiver, leading to stronger initial bonds and a search for comfort, according to psychological research and understanding.
Children and women globally face pervasive issues like violence (domestic, sexual, online), poverty, lack of education, malnutrition, harmful traditional practices (child marriage), and health crises, exacerbated by conflict, climate change, and economic instability, leading to increased mortality, displacement, and significant loss of healthy life years, with girls and women disproportionately affected. Key problems include increasing child marriage, widespread intimate partner violence, severe learning loss from school closures, and millions lacking basic healthcare access.
Many children suffer from hunger and live in dangerous conditions, with no one to protect them. Deprived of a father or mother to care for them, they are exposed to abuse, neglect, and many forms of exploitation, extreme violence, and psychological and emotional distress after the loss of one or both parents. Now imagine what this could mean and the impact on children? Terrifying and potentially having profound and varied consequences, leading to severe physical and psychological trauma, displacement, and long-term developmental problems. They risk being killed, maimed, orphaned, recruited, and sexually abused, and often suffer the loss of their families, education, and homes. No child should have to live such a dark and painful life. We believe that all children should have the same opportunities to thrive.
